Reading, PA – August 25, 2023 – The Reading Fightin' Phils, in partnership with COCA (Council on Chemical Abuse) and Easy Does It, Inc., are proud to announce a special Recovery Awareness Night event on August 31. This event aims to raise awareness about addiction and mental health recovery and provide valuable resources for individuals seeking help.

Former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman and Chief Wellness Officer of Pennsylvania Recovery Center and Pennsylvania Behavioral Health Center in Phoenixville, PA, Chris Therien, will be the esteemed guest speaker at the event. Therien, also the author of the book "Road to Redemption," will share his personal journey of addiction and mental health recovery from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the grandstands. All ticketholders attending the game are invited to listen to his inspiring story of resilience and transformation.
About Chris Therien: Chris Therien, a former NHL player, has become a prominent advocate for addiction and mental health recovery. Serving as the Chief Wellness Officer of Pennsylvania Recovery Center and Pennsylvania Behavioral Health Center, he has dedicated his life to raising awareness and offering support to those in need.
The event will offer attendees the chance to learn about medication safety, substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery resources. COCA and Easy Does It, Inc. will have information booths at the event, where visitors can pick up FREE t-shirts and access essential materials related to addiction and mental health.
Additionally, August 31 will be recognized as International Overdose Awareness Day, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the impact of overdose and the need for collective efforts to prevent it.
