Mental Health PHP in Pennsylvania — Structured Care, Home Every Evening

Our mental health PHP is a full partial hospitalization program for people whose primary struggle is depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, or a mental health condition complicated by substance use — not the other way around.

You get five to six hours of treatment a day, five days a week, at our Phoenixville, Center City Philadelphia or Avondale office, then go home each evening. A virtual option is available statewide for clinically appropriate clients.

Some services in this program may be provided by our sister program, Pennsylvania Behavioral Health. During your assessment, our team will help you pick the best fit for your situation.

What a mental health PHP program is

A partial hospitalization program is the most intensive outpatient level of care for mental health. It sits between weekly therapy and inpatient care: clinical days that look like a treatment schedule, without an overnight stay.

Our PHP treats primary mental health conditions and the co-occurring substance use that so often comes with them, in one integrated program — so you are not shuttling between a therapist for your mood and a counselor for your drinking.

What to expect in our program

Everything starts with a comprehensive assessment — your mental health history, current challenges, medications and goals — so your treatment plan is built around your situation rather than a template.

From there your week combines individual therapy, small groups of five to seven people, skill-building workshops and medication management, with families included in education and support along the way.

  • Comprehensive assessments — history, current symptoms, goals
  • Five to six hours of treatment a day, five days a week
  • Individual therapy plus small-group therapy and skills workshops
  • Medication management by our board-certified medical director
  • Integrated treatment for co-occurring substance use
  • Aftercare planning with local resources and step-down to IOP

Why treatment close to home in Chester County works

Mental health treatment only works if you can actually attend it. Our offices in Phoenixville, Center City Philadelphia and Avondale keep commutes short for Chester County, the Main Line, Philadelphia and southern Chester County — and our IOP runs day and evening tracks for people balancing work, school or family.

It also means your care is rooted in your real life. You practice new skills at home the same day you learn them, and your clinician helps you work through the actual stressors — a job, a relationship, a court date — instead of an idealized version of them.

Therapies include CBT, DBT skills, EMDR for trauma, Seeking Safety, motivational interviewing and family therapy — combined into one plan rather than offered as separate programs.

Why Pennsylvania Recovery Center

Our clinicians are experienced in treating a wide range of mental health disorders, our medical director provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management in-house, and we work with most major insurance plans — benefits verified before you commit.

Est. 2018, three Pennsylvania offices, and outcomes we actually measure: we track every client from admission to discharge with the BARC-10 recovery capital scale and PHQ-9 / GAD-7 screens.

Common questions

Is this program for mental health only, or addiction too?

Both. The program treats primary mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use together — one clinical team, one plan.

How long does the mental health PHP last?

Most clients attend for several weeks, stepping down to IOP as symptoms stabilize. Length is clinical, not calendar-based — your team reviews it with you every week.

Can I keep working while in the program?

PHP is a daytime commitment, so full-time work is hard during it. If you need to keep your job, ask about IOP — 9–15 hours a week with day and evening tracks — or virtual IOP statewide.

Is medication management included?

Yes. Our board-certified medical director evaluates and manages psychiatric medication as part of the program, not as a separate referral.

Who provides the services in this program?

Our own clinical team delivers most of the program. Some services may be provided by our sister program, Pennsylvania Behavioral Health — during your assessment, our team will help you pick the best fit for what you need.

Is mental health treatment covered by insurance?

Most major insurance plans cover PHP for mental health. Call (610) 233-4342 and we will verify your benefits — usually finished the same day.
