What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback also called EEG Biofeedback is a state-of-the-art, non-invasive, drugless method that teaches your brain to function in a healthier, and harmonious way. It works very simply and helps to change the way the brain creates and releases its electrical energy. Our brain has 4 locations of electrical impulses called Delta, Beta, Alpha, and Theta. These are also known as "frequency bands" that show us what part of your brain is active and which band should be utilized at a given time for a task or activity such as balancing a checkbook or simple relaxation from a hard day's work. Our goal is to help teach your brain to self-regulate and smoothly shift from states of relaxation to arousal. The brain is responsible for helping the central nervous system function properly. When it is not functioning correctly we have trouble regulating emotions, affect, and attention.
Is Neurofeedback for me?
This is a common question we get asked all the time! How do we know who is a good candidate for? It is definitely not for everyone and requires a firm commitment to complete the treatment, and it can only be determined if a need is there through a brain map. Common reasons individuals are referred for Neurofeedback in Pennsylvania include the following: ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, Depression, Insomnia, Learning Disorders, Memory Loss, Migraines, Peak Performance, PTSD, and Substance Use Disorders. Chances are a patient who might be struggling with multiple issues. The good news is that Neurofeedback can help with all of them at the same time!
What Does Neurofeedback Training Entail?
It is not as complicated as one might think. We connect you to a computer using wires and sensors which allows the Braincore Technology to monitor the brainwave activity. The equipment detects brain waves in real time, and feeds them into the computer. The feedback will be in the form of a movie, show, game, or sound which tells the patient that their brainwaves are becoming more ordered. The brainwaves of the patient actually control the movie, show, sound, or game. By observing this we help our brains learn to improve regulation. For example, if watching a movie the screen will become dark, and the sound turned down if a patient is not focusing.
