Benzodiazepines are involved in a large share of opioid overdose deaths, because combining the two suppresses breathing far more than either alone.[3]
The bigger local danger is counterfeit bars. Pressed pills sold as Xanax across Chester, Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia counties frequently contain fentanyl or a designer benzo like bromazolam instead of alprazolam.[3][4]

"Press bars" bought online or from a friend should be treated as fentanyl or a novel benzodiazepine until proven otherwise — they are a leading cause of fatal overdoses among people who thought they were taking Xanax.[3]
Getting off benzos safely is two jobs: a slow, medically managed taper and real treatment for the anxiety or trauma the medication was holding down.
We do not run a detox unit. Admissions arranges a supervised benzodiazepine taper — often a switch to a longer-acting agent with a gradual reduction — with trusted local providers, then brings you into PHP or IOP without a gap.[2]
PHP runs about six hours a day, five days a week; IOP is nine to fifteen hours a week with day, evening and virtual tracks. Living at home during a taper means practicing sleep and anxiety skills where you actually need them.
Cognitive behavioral therapy — including CBT-I for sleep — is the treatment that lets people stay off benzodiazepines long-term, because it does the job the pill was doing.
Non-habit-forming options for anxiety, depression and sleep are reviewed and managed on-site by our medical director, so you are not left with nothing after the taper.
For many clients the prescription followed a trauma. EMDR and Seeking Safety treat that directly instead of leaving it for after discharge.
Yoga, meditation, Reiki, soundbath, breathwork, a full on-site gym and monthly dietitian counseling — practical tools for a nervous system relearning how to settle without medication.

Symptoms include rebound anxiety and insomnia far worse than the original problem, tremor, sweating, heart palpitations, sensory hypersensitivity and derealization.
Some people experience a protracted withdrawal that waxes and wanes for months. That is not weakness or relapse — it is a known course, and it is far more manageable with clinical support and a slow taper than alone.[2]

No — not if you have been taking it regularly. Abrupt discontinuation can cause seizures and can be fatal. A supervised taper is the safe route, and we coordinate it before treatment starts.[1][2]
It depends on the drug, dose and how long you have been taking it — anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Slower tapers are generally more tolerable, and PHP or IOP runs alongside so you are not doing it unsupported.
Physical dependence can develop at prescribed doses without any misuse at all, and that is a medical situation rather than a moral one. If the dose has crept up, or you feel awful when a refill is late, an assessment is worth the call.[1]
CBT and CBT-I, trauma therapy, non-habit-forming medication where appropriate, and practical nervous-system skills. Most clients are surprised at how much better their anxiety is off benzos than on a rising dose.
Tell admissions on the first call — that combination is the most dangerous one we see and it changes the detox plan. We coordinate a setting equipped to withdraw you from both safely.[3]
