Chris Therien Recovery Awareness Night

Recovery Awareness Night brings together hockey fans, families in recovery and people still struggling — all in one arena, with the message that addiction is treatable and asking for help is normal.

Pennsylvania Recovery Center is proud to be part of it, alongside our partner Chris Therien. If the event brought you here, welcome — treatment is available at our Phoenixville, Center City Philadelphia and Avondale offices, and through virtual IOP statewide.

Why an arena full of people matters

Most people wait years between realizing they have a problem and making a call. The biggest barrier isn't cost or logistics — it's the belief that needing help is shameful. Public recovery events attack that belief directly.

When a former Flyer stands up and talks about his own addiction, it gives thousands of people permission to look at their own situation honestly. We see the calls that follow.

Therien's role

Chris Therien doesn't lend his name from a distance. He tells his story — the drinking through his playing years, the bottom, the treatment that worked — and he stays to talk with anyone who approaches him. You can read more about his partnership with our Philadelphia office.

If tonight's event made you think about your own drinking or using, that's worth a phone call: (610) 233-4342. No commitment — just answers.

See if we have a spot open this week

The instant check reviews pending admissions, therapist caseloads and open group spots across all three Pennsylvania offices and virtual IOP.

If you're here because of the event

A lot of people take their first step at events like this — not by signing up for anything, but by admitting to themselves that something needs to change. If that's you, the next step is smaller than you think: a benefits check and a level-of-care recommendation.

Our find your level of care quiz takes about two minutes and gives you an honest starting point. Or call and talk to a human.

What treatment looks like with us

  • [PHP](/php): six hours a day, five days a week, at all three offices
  • [IOP](/iop): 9–15 hours a week, day and evening tracks, plus virtual statewide
  • Small groups of five to seven, two individual sessions a week
  • [Dual diagnosis care](/what-we-treat/dual-diagnosis) for anxiety, depression and trauma underneath the addiction
  • [Family therapy](/therapies/family-therapy) so the people around you heal too

Common questions

What is Recovery Awareness Night?

A community event hosted around a Flyers game where recovery organizations, families and people in recovery come together to reduce stigma and connect people to help.

Do I have to identify as an addict to attend or reach out?

No. Plenty of people who come — or who call us afterward — are simply worried about their drinking or a loved one's use. That's reason enough.

What happens when I call?

A brief, confidential conversation about what's going on, a benefits check, and an honest recommendation about whether treatment makes sense and at what level.

Is treatment confidential?

Fully. Your employer, family and insurer only learn what you authorize. HIPAA protects everything you share with us.
